Group Announcements Parents--Be encouraged!Being a parent can be TOUGH!!! I'm a parent, too! And, right now, with 3 children, I frequently feel overwhelmed. However, things seem to go a little better when I follow some of the following guidelines that have been suggested to me. . .Take a look and see what you already do. See if you see one or two you could try this week. Feel free to make a suggestion for me!!!
1. LOVE your child! Show them everyday! Show them frequently and in a variety of ways. I leave my daughter notes on her napkin in her lunch box like, "I'm proud of the way you cleaned your room. Way to go!!!" Remember, if YOU don't tell them, SOMEONE else WILL! 2. Make FAMILY MEAL TIME a priority. EVERYBODY needs to sit down together if possible. And, turn off the TV! 3. Don't bug them with 20 questions. Say, "TELL me about your day!" Then, sit back and wait for a response. (I've used this with my older daughter. The other day, my four year old asked me about my day this way!) 4. EXPECT them to help around the house and with laundry. Expect a decent attitude. Expect good grades. Set up natural consequences for non-compliance. Praise them for success. 5. DON'T give in to every whim. They don't have to have a car or cell phone. NOT every student here has one!!! 6. Make sure they know HOW they are going home every day. Keep tabs on this for their safety. 7. Plan fun activities for them at home so that you KNOW where they are and WHAT they are doing. Plan them together. 8. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS model the behaviors you want them to have. If you want them to make healthy food choices, YOU make healthy food choices. If you want them to go to bed at a decent hour, YOU go to bed at a decent hour. If you want them to do their best at school, YOU do your best at work. 9. Give them CHOICES but you control the OPTIONS. "Do you want these KNEE LENGTH shorts or these NON-HOLE-Y jeans?" 10. Encourage them to GIVE to others. Share used clothing. Donate unused items to others. Give of your time by volunteering. You may choose to volunteer time here at the school! We could use the help! Parents--Volunteers NeededThere is almost ALWAYS something to be done on our campus! If you have an hour or two free and would like to volunteer in the main office or in the library, please feel free to contact someone in the offices. This is a WONDERFUL way for you to engage yourself more in the educational process of your student AS WELL AS communicate love and support for your son(s) and/or daughter(s)! THANK YOU to those of you who already are filling a need!
Students--Make Up WorkMake Up Work is readily available in the classroom in a labelled tray. Students should check the make up work box BEFORE checking with teacher.
